Mechanical Industries…Bringing Versatile Contract Manufacturing to a New Level
For more than 50 years, Mechanical Industries, Milwaukee, WI, has been a leading source for quality components and custom fabrications, offering a broad range of metalworking and assemblies capabilities. A
vertically integrated contract manufacturer servicing such industries as marine, automotive, small engine, agricultural, motorcycle, and others, Mechanical Industries has more than 150 employees
and 400 machines in a 150,000-square foot facility.
Three of those machines are swaging machines from Finn-Power USA, the newest being the high-speed FP20. According to Rob Ebert, plant manager of
Mechanical Industries, the Finn-Power swaging machines are used for hose assemblies and transmission and oil lines for the marine and motorcycle
products. “We are a very diverse company,” explains Ebert. “We have a welding house, we have a pressing house, we have screw machines, we make our own
ferrules, we bend our own tube…and we use the Finn-Power swaging machines to crimp complete assemblies.”
The FP20 can handle hose up to 11/4” and has a maximum swaging range of 61mm. In addition to hose swaging, it can be used in tube, pipe, cable, wire and
fiberglass applications. The FP20 has 150 tons of swaging force and it is capable of 2,300 swages per hour, which makes it one of the fastest production models on the market today.
“The Finn-Power machines that we have on the floor are very easy to use. Within a half hour, our new workers can learn to run the machines comfortably where
they can manufacture a quality product,” says Ebert. “The reliability of the machines have been outstanding. We assemble 4,000-5,000 lines per week. The
swaging machines run two shifts per day…day after day…which says something about the quality of the machines.”
