In most sheet metal shops, the press brakes
are normally the last machines to touch the parts being produced,
and are often the most demanding in terms of operator knowledge
and set-up requirements. At the end of the day, overall production
output is frequently determined by the number of parts that
can be successfully produced on these machines. Press brakes
also play a vital role in determining the quality of the
finished products. Any inconsistencies in the accuracy and
repeatability of these machines will most certainly reveal
themselves on the finished products. Given these facts, it
only stands to reason that in most sheet metal shops, the
press brakes must perform at a high level in order to maximize
production output and profitability.
At Wila, all of our efforts
are dedicated solely to maximizing press brake accuracy and
productivity by providing the fastest, most accurate, and
most durable clamping, tooling, and crowning (anti-deflection)
systems available. One component of our state of the art
clamping systems is our full line of high performance Lower
Tool Holders, which are designed for use in press brakes
that are six feet (two meters) or shorter in length where
beam deflection is less likely to be an issue, and those
that have built-in crowning (anti-deflection) systems.
All
Wila Lower Tool Holders are precision ground for maximum
accuracy. They come in a variety of configurations that make
them easy to mount to the lower beam (bed) of the machine.
This includes models with a base with a tang for installation
on press brakes produced specifically for the North American
market, models with a 2.362" (60mm) wide flat base for mounting
directly on top of the lower beam (bed) of European style
press brakes, and models with a bolt down base for press
brakes that utilize the universal beam concept.

Tool Holders come standard with hydraulic clamping. This
makes it possible to clamp and unclamp all die sections installed
with the push of a single button. There is never a need for
a wrench to tighten or loosen set-screws or clamp plates,
and dies never suffer the damage caused by the tightening
of set-screws against their tang.

Recent design enhancements
include the replacement of the clamping bars that were previously
used to clamp dies in most of our manual and hydraulic units
with a series of clamping pins like those found in our industry
leading New Standard II Crowning (Anti-Deflection) Systems.
These clamping pins, which apply a maximum of 725 pounds
per square inch (50 bar) of pressure, eliminate the problems
associated with the clamping of dies with tangs that are
inconsistent in thickness. Regardless of how long or short
or the number or location of the individual die sections
installed, all die sections are guaranteed to be tightly
clamped and properly seated and aligned when the hydraulic
power pack is activated.
Wila Lower Tool Holders are also
extremely versatile and are designed to utilize our full
line of New Standard and American style dies, as well as
the standard American style dies produced by a variety of
manufacturers. This is a tremendous benefit to press brake
owners that utilize multiple die styles like those commonly
found in European style press brakes. Regardless of whether
it is a standard 90 degree die, 30 degree acute angle die,
hemming die, a die for large radius bending, offset die,
or even a die produced for a special application, there is
never a need to change die holders. This eliminates the need
for and the subsequent cost of multiple die holders, die
rails, etc. as well as the time required to load, unload,
and align them.
