Finn-Power Introduces the New Shear Brilliance Concept
Finn-Power International, Inc., Schaumburg, IL, has recently introduced the Shear Brilliance® for precision sheet metal fabrication. Finn-Power has now applied linear drive technology to the integrated shearing concept the company introduced in the late 1980’s.

surpasses all performance values previously associated with integrated punching and shearing!

Faster punching speeds alone, are not the total answer to productivity. Finn-Power found the greatest potential area for productivity improvement in total
manufacturing time to be in the areas of axes movements.
Depending upon the program, axes movements in typical fabrication systems can account for 50% of total processing time from loading the sheet to stacking
the finished part. The X and Y axes movements are the most time consuming phase of the program. Between movements, most machines have delay times.
The Shear Brilliance, however, eliminates these dwell times by its ability of perform parallel operations, such as loading, shearing, and stacking simultaneously.

Finn-Power’s main objective is to increase productivity. With the Shear Brilliance, fabricators can double production compared to conventional methods on the market.
A new level of multi-function performance is made possible by the space between the turret punch press and the right angle shear where auxiliary equipment can be installed.
The combination of a 6,400 mm X traverse, four clamps and the extremely high positioning speed allowed by linear drives means that more functions – punching,
forming, tapping, bar coding, and shearing – can be performed flexibly as a single, multi-purpose work stage and with a single clamping. No auxiliary time is wasted in clamp repositioning during the process.

Accuracy is retained on a very high level as also shearing is performed without re-clamping. In addition to speed, linear drives ensure excellent positioning and,
consequently, accuracy of each work stage performed. A further factor contributing to accuracy is the actuation of Y movement by synchronized linear drives on
opposite sides. This ensures minimum deflection of the coordinate table even when a heavy sheet is being positioned at maximum acceleration/deceleration values.
A new turret with more tooling capacity has also been developed. The Shear Brilliance has 30 tool stations – 15 stations can be auto-index, forming, or
Multi-Tool® stations, and, as a result, up to 200 tools are simultaneously available.
In addition to the integrated shearing concept, another Finn-Power commitment since the 1980’s has been one to automatic material management. Finn-Power is
now able to automate the entire material flow through all work stages it concentrates on – punching, laser cutting, punching integrated with either laser
cutting or right angle shearing, as well as bending either by a press brake or an automatic bending cell. The new Shear Brilliance can be equipped with a complete
material management solution as well as integrated in the factory-wide Night-Train FMS.
