FINN-POWER Introduces New Generation Laser Punch Combination Cell

FINN-POWER introduced laser punch flexible manufacturing cells in the early 1990’s. Over the years, subsequent development with several new models has secured FINN-POWER’s position as a proven player in this market, offering the most extensive product line in the industry.

FINN-POWER recently introduced a new generation of LP6 Series laser punch flexible manufacturing cells. The introduction of technical enhancements and a new industrial design have created a winning combination of modern sheet metal working technology.

New LP6 Features

Maximum sheet size for FINN-POWER LP6 is 1,565 mm x 3.074 mm (60”x120”) or the 1,565 mm x 4,300 mm (60”x169”) LP8. With 300 kN (33 US ton) hydraulic ram force, flexible 20-station turret, up to four sheet clamps, programmable clamp setting, and positioning for virtually 100% material utilization and digital punch control FINN-POWER LP6 provides enhanced performance and flexibility in many ways.

A new construction of axis system (X and Y) allows higher acceleration and positioning than in the past (positioning speed X/Y 150 m/min / 5.905”/min). Also the index system has been redesigned to allow accuracy with greater speed up to 166 rpm.

Sheets up to 8 mm (0.314”) can be processed. The speed of the marking mode is 3,000 hpm. Tool change time is 1…3 seconds. The wide range of options available includes indexable upforming, different solutions for integrated tapping, Multi-Tools® to extend the available tools easily over a hundred etc.

2,500 Watt Slab Laser

The laser unit is a 2,500 watt diffusion-cooled CO2 Slab laser with excellent mode structure (K-factor 0.8 or better). Low maintenance and extremely low gas consumption are further features of the laser. Position of the laser unit allows easy access to the machine with only two external optics and minimizes floor space requirement.

A standard feature in the LP6 is the autofocus cutting head designed by FINN-POWER. Due to the intelligent quick change cassette system of the cutting head a new or different focusing lens can be changed in seconds.

Designed with the Operator in Mind

The Windows®-based operator interface software (HMI) installed on an industrial PC with Pentium® processor technology supports the operator in many ways, providing recovery instructions, a simple access to electronic manuals, NC programs, tool or forming parameters and the laser parameter manager. The system allows work preparation, tool management and set up while the machine is running.

The multimedia-based, integrated diagnostic system helps the operator quickly identify and correct possible malfunctions.

The optional teleservice and/or remote monitoring to FINN-POWER customer support organization or a message system to the user’s assigned phone, allows continuous monitoring of the system for highly productive manufacturing.

Automated Material Flow

Component exit is arranged via one trap door (500 mm x 500 mm / 19.7”x19.7”) for punched parts, as well as two for laser cut parts (300 mm x 400 mm / 11.8”x15.7” and

800 mm x 800 mm / 31.4”x31.4”). Scrap removal from punching and laser cutting is automatic and separates them from finished components.

Loading, unloading, sorting, and stacking can be automated. The LP6 can be connected to an automatic storage and the whole range of FINN-POWER’s material handling and management modules.

FINN-POWER Introduces Turret Punch Press for Large Sheet Applications

FINN-POWER has recently introduced the C6 turret punch press, a big brother to the C5 which captured the imagination of fabricators in late 2003. The C6 has a new axis actuation system with rack & pinion and dual ball screw, working area without repositioning up to 123” (3144 mm) and material size 60” x 120” (1500 x 3000 mm) without repositioning.

The C Series is equipped with fast hydraulics providing both super fast punching speed and the possibility of using programmable ram speeds when employing forming tools or for reducing the noise level with large-diameter tools. The programmable stroke length enhances the flexibility in forming and special tool operations. Other features include:

  • 33 US tons (300 kN) hydraulic punching force

  • Punching capacity up to 8 mm (0.314”) sheet thickness

  • Quick stroke punching cylinder, max hit rate 3000 hpm (marking mode)

  • Digitally-controlled punch stroke with pre-programmed punching modes

  • High end CNC controls by Siemens

  • Digitally controlled servo axis for fast response and accurate positioning (5905”/min / 150m/min)

  • Rack & pinion drive on x-axis and 2 servo driven ball screws on y-axis to support fast and precise sheet positioning

  • Servo-driven turret for quick tool change

  • Fast index design, allowing optimum working efficiency with rotation speed of up to 166 rpm

  • Vertical index locking ensures secure locking and assuring elimination of any punching stress to the index system

  • 20 station turret with maximum capacity of ten 3.5” (89 mm) index stations

  • Tooling stations allow use of any major tooling style and size

  • Capability to use all wheel technologies

  • Tool capability over 200 tools

  • Optional indexable upforming system to create high forms without any interference to adjacent stations

  • Programmable clamp setting, PCS, optional 4th clamp for optimum sheet security and programmable individual clamp movement

  • Easy manual loading with four reference pins for easy loading of different sheet sizes

  • Easy semi-automatic unloading of processed sheets

  • Standard brush table sheet support to ensure optimum sheet support

  • Sheet support rolls for ease of loading of heavy sheets

  • Automatic part unloading up to 19.7”x19.7” (500 x 500 mm) using optional work chute

  • Optional unloaded part transferring system to the pallet

  • Siemens standard user interface with ethernet connection for program downloading/network integration

  • Windows® XP based cell control PC, with FINN-POWER graphical user interface
