Boost Press Brake Productivity with Wilson American Precision Tooling

by Ron Palick
Vice President of Sales and Marketing
Wilson Tool International, Inc.

Press brake fabricators are constantly seeking new ways to boost productivity and cut downtime. Fortunately, Wilson Tool has the solutions they’re after. The Wilson American Precision™ press brake tooling line, for example, is at the forefront of innovation with breakthrough advances such as standard staged dies, push button tool loading, and Nitrex™ Surface Enhancement. And with an unmatched selection of standard punch tip radii and same day shipping, it’s clear why fabricators worldwide rely on Wilson Tool to improve press brake operations and reduce costs.

Perform Multiple Bends in One Setup with Standard Staged Dies

Wilson American Precision is the only tooling line that makes it easy to complete multiple bends in a single setup. By offering staged dies standard on all tooling, it’s possible to complete multiple bends that have a common shut or staged height with only one setup, reducing downtime and allowing for smaller runs. Common shut height tool lines are designed to simplify complex staged tooling setups.

“In the past, to complete four different bends, each bend would need to be set up individually, tearing down and re-setting each time. Only large run jobs could be cost effective,” said Wilson Tool Press Brake Manager Pat Campbell. “With staged bending, press brake operators set up all four bends at the same time. This drastic reduction in downtime makes smaller runs more cost effective since the part is only handled once.”

Another benefit of staged bending is that it allows press brake operators of all experience levels to work efficiently. Tools with varying profiles and V-openings can be run on the same setup, allowing the tools to all close at once. In typical tool operations, this can’t be done unless a seasoned press brake operator constructs special die shims. Staged bending eliminates the need for these special shims so that press brake operators with a variety of experience levels can complete the procedure.

Reduce Downtime with Click-in Loading and Unloading

Wilson American Precision’s patent-pending push button technology is the industry standard for fast, easy tool loading and unloading. This push button feature vastly increases the efficiency of any press brake job by simply “clicking in” and “clicking out” almost instantaneously, allowing for quick tool changes and setups. The push button technology also enhances the safety of the press brake.

Increase Safety and Reduce Costs with Sectionalized Tooling

There are three different lengths of punches and dies in the American Precision line: short (18”), long (36”) and sectionalized (35.87”). Sectionalized tools are precision cut in ten pieces, making them easier to handle and less expensive to replace. Sectionalized tool pieces can quickly be installed unassisted by a single press brake operator, and their compact size makes them safer to use. If one or two of the pieces should need replacement, Wilson Tool customers can choose to only buy the pieces they need, substantially reducing replacement costs.

Improve Tool Life with Nitrex™ Surface Enhancement

Our advanced Nitrex High Endurance Surface Enhancement-standard on all Wilson American Precision tooling-produces a surface hardness of HRC-60, increasing tooling life by several times that of untreated tooling. Nitrex is an advanced surface treatment that permeates the tool steel through a heat-treat process, minimizing galling, increasing lubricity and reducing friction. With Nitrex, you’ll experience longer tool life, faster cleanups and zero tool corrosion.

Get the Tools You Need Shipped Fast

Contract manufacturers and OEMs that need a wide variety of standard punch tip radii will find the industry’s largest variety of standard radius options with Wilson American Precision. Our selection allows you to find the radius that matches your needs without the extra delivery time and cost associated with special tooling. Choose a size based on material thickness, bending application or material needs. Add to that our full line of special tooling, and you’ll always get the exact form and shape you need.

Wilson Tool is committed to reducing lead times for the whole American Precision line. In the near future, customers will be able to place an order and receive same-day shipping on an increasing number of catalog offerings.
